Hi and welcome to my homepage
If you are interested in the Isle of Man this link is a fairly good place to start !
You might be interested in the history of Ramsey the town in which I was born and have lived in for most of my life.
On the other hand you might be interested in the Islands Heritage and decide to pay the Isle of Man a visit !
Have a look at the Island. here (Great views of the Island from Jon Worhams site)
and today the Islands WEATHER is like this that link also has links to detailed maps of the Island (click on Map Blast in the top right hand corner)
If you are not sure where the
is then have a look here !
Follow this link to my selection of Amateur Radio related sites
Lots of LINKS to other sites !!
Well worth a look !
(Internet Relay Chat) is also worth "getting into" very similar to packet radio ! I have found that linking to Undernet UK then join "Hamradio" and away you go ! the 'Hambot 'and 'Radiobot' are always available if there is nobody else to "talk" to !!
Please read a few basic rules about IRC before jumping in ! use your callsign as a nickname on the #Hamradio channel (you can always change it at any time during a chat) Activity on the #Hamradio channels seems to have decreased, if life is quiet on the IRC #Hamradio channel why not try the Packet System via Telnet (See below )
The Internet is a vast source of useful information for the radio amateur.
VoIP (voice over internet protocol) and the world wide linking of repeaters via the internet now enables you to connect to a local node via (using on the Island) either 2m or 70cms rigs then keying tones via the mic ( just like your telephone ) enables you to open up a repeater or repeater system elsewhere in the world and put a call through in the same way as any normal repeater. ECHO-LINK is used by many amateurs
The DX - Cluster online feed via Telnet or online feed to your logging program is great providing you have access to the Internet.(see below)
If you have an Amateur Radio Callsign, use the Telnet abilities of your browser to link to the packet gateways around the world and enter the packet network that way !! ie. chat on the packet network from the Internet, I have found the links much faster than using the 2m or 70 cms links ! You will find links to stations and telnet addresses via the GD4IHC Links Page. For first time users :- these stations usually run a BBS with limited access, when you find one you like :- Sp the Sys Op requesting Access and give your Callsign and the Password you would like ! Having gained access, next time you log using your newly acquired password, type Con or Conf and you will linked to a channel enabling you to join in the fun ! The DX -Cluster Network is also available to you live On -Line. Try Telnet dxc.pi4cc.nl (a Dutch DX Cluster feed) or the DX Cluster at GB7MBC and compare the Internet speed with Packet feed. Telnet is already part of the Linux system and available to Windows users if they use 'Explorer' go to the windows directory find the telnet program and click on it !
