Online CallsignsJHB Airlines has been accepted as a VA airline by IVAO and VATSIM. Pilots may use their JHB airline callsign when flying online with the above ATC systems. Details are:
The code is what you enter in the Flight Plan. This appears on the ATC flight strips and radar screen so you must remember to change this if you wish to use a different callsign from your last session. For example you may alternate between your JHB callsign and a VFR registration for flights so please make it a habit of checking the callsign before you connect. For voice transmissions the airline will use Diamond. If you enter JHB749 as your callsign then your radio call will be Diamond 749. If flying VFR you can, alternatively, using the aircraft registration as your callsign but you MUST change the callsign prior to logging in. For the Flight Plan your callsign should set correctly. Check this before you connect as once you join the IVAO or VATSIM server you cannot alter the callsign.
* M- is the new Manx Aircraft Register prefix operational from April 2007. ServInfoServInfo is a very useful program for seeing who is active in VATSIM or IVAO without having to join the session first. One very useful feature of the program is that a click on any controller or aircraft you will get a detailed pop up panel showing full information for that person and flight. If the pilot is flying with a recognised airline this panel will also show the airline logo, airlines name and callsign. Unfortunately the author of ServInfo stopped upgrading the program some time ago in respect of incorporating additional airline logos and we now have to distribute our own. This is quite easy at a local level as you just insert a line in the servinfo.dat file and drop a bitmap in the ServInfo/Logos folder. Users who would like to add JHB to the ServInfo data can download my JHB_Logo file and follow the instructions. A more detailed servinfo.dat file is also available. This contains many more UK airports than the default servinfo file plus many private strips. It also has a reasonably up to date VA listing.
