UK Air Navigation Obstacles

FS2002/4 UK Air Navigation Obstacles

Cooling towers and masts in the ANO scenery.

UK ANO scenery screenshots.

Air Navigation Obstacles are listed in the AIP (Aeronautical Information Publication) for every country. In the UK the ANO listing shows the position of every object with a height of 300ft or more above ground level. Objects above 500ft have to show obstruction lights.

The UK ANO scenery recently uploaded to AVSIM/Flightsim includes all listed ANO objects for N. Ireland, England and Wales that are above 500ft. In addition, many of the more visually objects between 300ft and 500ft are included. No obstacles for Scotland are included as these are already available in the Scotflight scenery. Objects already designed and available at AVSIM/Flightsim have similarly been omitted (a list is included in the ANO readme).

UK ANO Updates

Because of the long listing of UK ANO objects it is inevitable that the data will change over time. I hope to release updates for the scenery as we get new information. Not all the CAA data is correct and so user feedback will allow us to update the information. Obstacles also have a more temporary life than one may believe and some objects in the current upload may no longer exist. If we find amended data we will publish the changes on this page.

An FSX version will not be made as one has already been published on Avsim.

Changes and Updates to UK ANO Part 1

Manual Changes

1. Criggion masts - These masts were dismantled during the creation of ANO Part 1 and I disabled them in the scenery by renaming the BGL's to BGX. Users who would like to see the masts can do so by renaming these files.

Rename Mast_Criggion.BGX to Mast_Criggion.BGL
Rename Mast_Criggion2.BGX to
Mast_Criggion2.BGL

2. Whitehaven chimney - Is reported to be demolished. To disable this stack:

Rename Chim_Whitehaven.bgl to Chim_Whitehaven.bgx.
Rename (or delete) the smoke effects file
s_whitehaven.bgl.

Updates

UK ANO Part 1 Update - Revision 2

Installation

Unzip the BGL files directly into your ANO Part 1/Scenery folder. Allow it to overwrite the originals. In addition there may be some files that require removing by hand - see below for further details.

Revision 2 includes:

1. Crystal Palace - Incorrect CAA data resulted in two masts being placed here instead of one. In addition I have improved the lattice masts thanks to help provided from Steve Hewitt and Ted Andrews.

Delete the files Mast_Crystal_Palace.BGL and Mast_Crystal_Palace2.BGL.

2. Replacement Masts - For Winter Hill, Belmont, Bilsdale and Waltham masts. These are now "solid" masts.

3. Relocated Luton mast - owing to inaccurate CAA data.

New Winter Hill mast.

Croydon Mast

Some users may prefer a lattice mast at Croydon similar to the Crystal Palace mast.

If you wish to make this change then do the following:

1. Go to the UK ANO Vol1/Scenery folder and rename the file:

 Mast_Croydon.BGL to Mast_Croydon.BGX

2. Replace with Mast_Croydon2.BGL.
