Catalogue of UK Airfields

Work on updating the Catalogue of UK Airfields is well under way. The pages will undergo three stages of revision to improve loading times, appearance and content. In addition the data will also be available as a KML file for viewing in Google Earth and as an MMO file for viewing in Memory Map.

Stage 1 is already complete. The original pages were imported from Excel to FrontPage and this was exceedingly inefficient - pages were about 2.5Mb each. With better code these are now much smaller and averaging about 170k.

Stage 2 is the revision of Lat/Long data for existing records. Airfields will also be categorised to indicate the accuracy of their position. At present this work is about 60% complete.

Stage 3 will be the addition of further data from new research and user input. This will start once Stage 2 is complete.

The Catalogue will be updated as the work progresses. Until the updating is finished these will be flagged as Interim Updates.
